The Lord of the Rings FPS AU

Most of my FPS is AU because I have two obsessions: Boromir must live. Frodo and Faramir must be together. So these fics tend to have happier endings than Tolkien's work. These fics draw on both bookverse and movieverse (blend, add water, and stir).


The Lord of the Rings FPS Dark or Dark Themes AU

Recently, I have become interested in dark elements in Tolkien's universe. These stories which are still FPS and AU are therefore different than my other AU fics because someone takes the Ring. So far, I've written Boromir and Aragorn. There is a planned Faramir in the future. These stories have either tragic or ambiguous endings. They also draw on both bookverse and movieverse.

The Lord of the Rings RPS Behind the Scenes

Since I write RPS, I obviously don't consider it illegal (well no more than FPS snicker) OR immoral OR an invasion of "real" people's privacy. "My thoughts on RPS as Role Playing Slash can be read here.

Started out David/Elijah, mostly PG-13, then mutated to David/Viggo/Sean, with some Andy thrown in. At that point, NC-17 is the rule, with major Bondage & Dom/Sub elements. Also very very long. And looks to be neverending. Started in Wellington during filming, then David and Sean and Viggo started having vacations (England and Idaho). Then they went back to Wellington for a premier. Which so far they haven't gotten to see. *So* not my fault. I blame Sean.

In the wake of the Drama-Vidorama, Fiercelydreamed/The_drifter has started DW/LJ communities for a festival of fan works that are queer gen!

Most incredibly brilliant superb fantastic thinky sheer bloody genius I've seen in a long time. Because yeah, queer people are queer all the time, not just when having sex (in fact, I haven't had sex with another person since sometime in 1982--forget exactly when!--and I am queer).

So, yeah. Read post and follow links for the FULL brilliance!

Desperately behind at work due to STUFF, so am just posting links to some great discussions I read over lunch (LATE lunch due to STUFF), but moar proof of how "award" efforts often go away in fandom is vidorama which is one (or two?) (or royal?) person/people having vid contests while excluding slash vids and fandoms with same-sex relationships because apparently teh gay is icky. I'm way behind this (the debate has already been deleted in the community), but am posting to link to great posts, and encourage a boycott (HA!) of the contests. I see that their first contest (they have one every thirty vids) has been filled, but I hope to see the community die away.

(For the record, I see nothing wrong with a GEN community but allowing HET and not slash? Disallowing fandoms with same-sex relationships in canon? Homophobic plain and simple.)

I read somewhere no flist that about 4000 people voted which I think shows just how pathetic (not even 1%?) most people view the advisory board as.

I voted--mostly to retain my bitching rights (I do not believe I have the right to complain about results of any election in which I'm eligible to vote and don't!).

A friend just told me about Sliptongue. She knows I haz bondage sestinas (a matched set!), and a lot of places that want formal verse don't want erotic stuff. So I sent them off!

And then these Republican men keep turning up adulterers which, seems to me, kinda ruins the sanctity of their marriages at least. And makes them look like a bunch of two-faced, lying, hypocrites.

The current round of debate is taking place (does the warnings debate always happen in June or am I fantasizing?)--some good posts have been linked in metafandom. I mostly skimmed because I'm happy where I am and am not about to change. But I figure, useful to post my policy just for information's sake. Not that I've been posting much fic lately, but I hope to return when life meaning work calms down.

So: my Warnings policy is fairly similar to my Spoiler policy.

I don't care that much about spoilers about 99% of the time (too much an academic, and academic discussion is full of spoilers). I don't care that much about warnings about that percent of the time. But I know from a very long time on this planet (Entwife wants to have a joint 100 birthday party later this year--she's turning 46 in August, I'm turning 54 in November, and voila! 100!) that I am usually an outlier in any given group I'm in, and what I consider normal is usually perceived by a lot of the people around me as rude shading to perverse, and I have no desire to hurt people. Fanfic is for FUN, and it takes me less than 30 seconds to slap a warning on, so I do it.

I warn for spoilers for the same reason, although I can be tired/screw up/not think a lot when I'm in a hurry--as given my recemt example about what I cut vs. what I blathered about after first seeing ST:Reboot! I don't care about spoilers, but many people do, so why should I hurt them.

I post warnings for dark, rape; I used to warn for Interspecies (*eyerolls* I know but in 2003-2004 or so there was a strong current amongst some of the LOTR rps fandom of "OMG Hobbit/Man PEDOPHILIA EEEK!" despite the fact that Frodo is canonically 50 in the novel, and adult enough to inherit Bag End in the film, and anybody who claims that short people aren't adults should have to discuss it with Entwife for a few rounds--I'll have bandages handy.).

I have posted for BDSM in the past, in the earlier "Behind the Scenes' series--but...hmm..I'd have to check. I have posted for rimming. I haven't posted much in BtS recently: even before I slipped out of fic mode, I'd been doing a lot more dark, rape, and torture fic in recent years. I don't think I've ever warned for specific character death, because I figure if it says "dark" that implies a strong possibility (though I rarely kill people off...) (my dark is not terribly dark). But even fairly early on, I remember one SM non-con fantasy of Frodo's....*coffcoff*...

gryphonsegg made a good point about the distinction between rape and non-con in a discussion at werelemur's post--what she said about a possible meaning for non-con is what I call rape fantasy (which I've written, and which is distinct from rape).

ETA: I don't think it's odd or bad that the various debates cycle around--people come and go in fandoms, people change, and new people are always coming in.
