May 29, 2010: I have moved to DW but will be crossposting to LJ as a default and enabling comments at both sites. I'll work out where I'll mostly be reading as this summer unfolds.

I am a queer fifties something poet, fan, writer, scholar, and teacher. One of the constants in my life has been my love for the works of J.R.R. Tolkien. Other constants are friends, cats, dogs, nature, and writing. I manage to talk about all of the above in this journal. Many of those posts are friends locked.
My fan fiction is posted openly (and primarily here since *blush* I am not always good at remembering to post links in the communities).
I write RPS and FPS, primarily in the LOTR fandom (although a few Serenity and Pirates drabbles may make their appearance). In RPS, I write my OT3: David/Viggo/Sean. In FPS, I write Frodo/Faramir (OTP), and quite a lot of Boromir. (I use OT3 and OTP to indicate what I most like to read and write--not to make converts). I started getting involved with darkfic a while ago, due to a few friends (you so know who you are!), and am now adding femslash/saffic (I think I like the second usage best!) because of interest caused by a few mind-numbingly hawt fics and the desire to write an academic essay about how academics are so far mostly ignoring saffic and related genres.
I am an aca-fan (an academic who was a fan before becoming an academic, who is active in fandom, and also producing scholarship on fandom) who is more interested in changing the academic culture by learning from fandom, than taking over fandom and colonizing it.
I began teaching online entirely in 2006 primarily because of my love for hanging out online; sadly, this decision has somewhat cut down on my online fun time. Depending on the time of the term, I can post a lot, every day, and write fanfic like mad. At other times, I am pretty swamped and can barely skim my flist.
