I log in to check fandom_wank and find that I actually had read a whole slew of the posts before FanLib.com wank made the wankspace!
Click here. I was interested in one wanka's comment that rarely had so many fandoms been so unified about something -- because, whoa, now that I think about it, yeah, I think there is a pretty strong unity in all the posts I've seen.
Anybody seen any true/real/major fandom types (BNF's in any fandom) coming out for it? Any major comms or peoples representing major fandoms/segments/interest groups in fandoms supporting it?
I don't count their employee person because although she claims to have been active in fandom(s) for decades, the idea that gender isn't an issue and her very skimpy tiny little flist argues against the idea that she's been around/active in *online/LJ* fandoms for any length of time. (I was also amused at her *shock* at being called upon to supply proof for her claims--the idea that anybody could doubt her word being so foreign to her also implies a, well, certain amount of innocence via online fandoms).
The FanLib thing is *so* fascinating: I would comment more but I have sworn that by the end of the day my office will be *clean* and *organized* in terms of projects to be done this summer! *strikes dramatic pose and promises to fall on metaphorical sword if I do not carry through on my sworn oath* (*dramatic music swells in background*)
ETA: Thanks to
camillabloom who linked to this excellent article with threaded comments: FanLib going public in some sense (claming #3M in funding?), and fan responses, plus a troll who "replies" to fan critiques by "outing" the fans as writing....wait for it.....FAN FICTION! (Even funnier, the troll is going by the name of "Viggo")! Link here.
(small eta, html coding/linking fix--sorry!)
Son of ETA Brilliant thread on
telesilla's journal, all about the *ads* for FanLib.com which feature, um, men. Icons are being made, and plans for slashing some of the men are underway, as well as ongoing commentary about which guy would appeal more to those invisible fans, what are they now, um, wait it will come to me: OH YEAH, *WOMEN*! Click here for link and I'm not kidding you must see the ads! No words of mine could do justice to the incredible mediocrity of it all.
